Matters of the Heart: February Self-Love, Heart Chakra Support, and Gentle Healing

My Dearest Friend,

As February arrives and the world turns its attention to romance, I invite you to turn inward for a moment.

For many of us, matters of the heart are not only about who we love or are partnered with. They are also about what we carry inside our own chest. The holding. The tension. The quiet effort it takes to keep going.

This reflection offers gentle heart chakra support for emotional pressure, especially during the season of February self-love.

If you are moving through elevated blood pressure (as I am), your body may be asking for more care and softness. From an energetic point of view, the heart often holds old feelings—unspoken hurts, stress, or the pressure to always show up for others.

This month, let’s explore what it feels like to ease that pressure. To gently soften the heart chakra and give yourself room to breathe.

Heart Chakra Support for Emotional Pressure

The heart chakra is often where we hold stress, love, and emotion all at once. When life asks too much of us, the heart may feel tight or guarded.

Supporting the heart chakra does not mean forcing it open. It means creating safety. It means slowing down. It means allowing yourself to feel without needing to fix anything.

Gentle practices—like breath, touch, intention, and scent—can help the heart feel supported again.

Gentle Aromas for the Heart

Essential oils can support this process in a simple and loving way. They are not here to fix you. They are here to help you feel safe enough to relax.

Ylang Ylang- This oil is known for its calming effect. It helps slow the body and invites the heart to let go of what it has been holding. (I regularly use this one.)

Marjoram- Often called the herb of happiness, Marjoram brings comfort when you feel tired or alone. It offers warmth and quiet peace. (I just recently add this oil to my heart chakra roller.)

Geranium- Geranium supports emotional balance and self-acceptance. It gently reminds the heart that love does not need to be earned. (This is another one I use for my heart chakra).

Best Practices for Using These Oils

Essential oils work best when used with care and intention. A little goes a long way.

General Guidelines

  • Always dilute essential oils before applying to the skin(1 drop essential oil to 1 teaspoon of carrier oil, such as jojoba or coconut)

  • Use oils in a calm space where you can slow down and breathe

  • If you are pregnant, nursing, or under medical care, check with a qualified professional

Ylang Ylang – For Calming and Slowing Down

Best use: Aromatic inhalation

  • Add 1–2 drops to a diffuser

  • Or place 1 drop on a tissue and breathe slowly for a few minutes

When to use: When your mind feels busy or your body feels keyed up

Marjoram – For Comfort and Ease

Best use: Topical (diluted)

  • Mix 1 drop with carrier oil

  • Gently massage over the upper chest or shoulders

When to use: When you feel worn down, lonely, or emotionally tired

Geranium – For Emotional Balance

Best use: Heart-centered application (diluted)

  • Mix 1 drop with carrier oil

  • Apply lightly over the heart center

When to use: During self-care time or when you need emotional steadiness

A Simple Heart Ritual (Optional)

Choose one oil. Place a hand over your heart. Take three slow breaths.

Silently say: “I am safe to soften.”

Let the oil support you — not by changing you, but by reminding you to slow down.

If You Are Single This Valentine’s Season

If you are single, this time can be one of Sacred Sovereignty—a chance to deepen your relationship with yourself.

  • Soften the holding: Take slow, steady breaths to calm your nervous system.

  • Step back from comparison: Limit social media if it feels heavy. Your path is your own.

  • Offer yourself care: Apply a small amount of diluted Geranium over your heart and thank yourself for all that you carry.

If You Are in a Relationship

If you have a partner, this season is still an invitation to turn inward.

Being with someone does not always mean the heart feels light. Even in loving relationships, we can hold stress, unspoken needs, or the habit of putting ourselves last.

  • Check in with your heart: Notice where you may be holding tension or staying quiet.

  • Share gently: If it feels safe, speak one truth from the heart without needing it to be fixed.

  • Breathe together: A few slow breaths side by side can help both nervous systems settle.

Love grows when there is space to be honest and soft at the same time.

A Final Thought

Healing the heart is not about fixing it. It is about listening. When we release the weight we carry around love—fear, old hurts, or the need to try harder—our energy begins to move more freely. Love deepens when we stop pushing and start allowing.

Whether you spend February 14th alone or with a partner, remember this: the most important relationship you will ever tend is the one you have with yourself.

If this message speaks to you, I invite you to try my five-minute heart meditation. It is designed to calm the body and help the heart return to its natural rhythm.

Your heart is already whole. Sometimes, it just needs a little space.

If you’d like to pause and reset, you’re welcome to schedule a 15-minute break with me. You can also reaffirm your subscription to receive your free 30-minute Usui Holy Fire® Reiki session.

Please feel free to share this with someone you care about.

With warmth,

Riki Marie
